*sigh* I wonder if the Passport authority provides bulletproof vests when you buy a passport? They should anyway, for the price we gotta pay for the damn things...

Dubai is one of the safest cities in the entire Middle East (I would venture to say one of the safest cities in the world). Plus it's quite posh if you know where to spend your money. It's the Hong Kong of the Mid East. Go and enjoy.

Yeh, but another of my points is, it's so friggen far... Florida is bad enough (Universal Studios has a nice Marvel selection). Dubai? Thats half way around the world... Literly...

I understand Dubai is an up and growing upscale country/state/place thingy, but a Marvel theme park? ;-\

Also, what average American would travel to Dubai? I'm not claiming to be all knowing, and am pretty ignorant sometimes... (Hell, I'm American) and ya read what I posted, showing my depth of ignorance. Do you think the average citizen is any less so?

Yep, it's quite far. I flew from New York City to Dubai a year and a half ago. It took at least 10 hours, if not more. Actually I think it was a 12 hour flight.

I hear ya, Navic. I am of a diverse ethnic background, but I think I've gotten over the wanderlust. Give me the good ole USA also.

There are some cool projects and buildings I'd love to visit in Dubai... Burj Al Arab, those man-made islands that resemble palm trees and such, and of course the in-door ski hill

Dubai has one of the best Tax structures in the world.. it is no mistake that alot of the really big corporations are moving their main offices to Dubai. That perk and a few others make the place very desirable to big companies and the top 10 percent of income earners in the world.

The downside to the whole thing is the Islamic Police. I am not saying people will intentionally screw up but accidents happen, for instance it is illegal to be in mixed company unless you are related, is the prime number one cause for americans to be caught in that region, this means you go to a board meeting or a after office party and the secretary shows up and someone tips the police off, it can cause a embarrasing situation that takes some finagling to get out off. So all in all , i do not find that place anywherei would like to go, mainly for the reason, i do not know the laws and would not want to end up behind bars for something i would think rather stupid.

Oh, hell yeh... I would too.... I have to give them props for the well managed, growth they've accomplished thus far.... I'd love to visit there, but it doesn't mean I will, because of reason's already mentioned.... Hell, I'd like to visit Egypt too... But doesn't mean I will....
