Website suggestions

1) Disable the music so that it has to be enabled manually, or somehow provide an option to disable it via the registered profile.

I'm using Google Chrome and generally cntrl + click links, or will just duplicate an existing tab and browse with that. So the result is that I might have open say 4-5 different browser tabs that are all pointing to this site. Having to scroll down and shut off the music after each new tab is made is annoying.

I could probably deal with it, except that randomly it will lock up my Chrome browser and I have to cntrl+alt+del and end process on all all instances / chrome processes. I've had it happen with only two tabs open, sometimes I've had up to 6 open. Anyway I'm 99% positive it is the music.

Chrome is 100% stable on other sites, and I can browse any other site fine, including other message boards / forums. The only thing out of the ordinary is the music that auto-plays.

2) Do something about the forum / site registration. It is almost absolutely ridiculous to sign up for an account. I haven't played the game for probably at least 10 years. And yet to register you are asking trivia questions about the game? I didn't know the answer to any of them, and had to keep F5 (Refreshing) the browser until I got a questions about DD which I somehow remembered was death darts.

The forum registration prevents any new users who have never played the game before from registering. You have to register to go to the download section.

I would suggest changing the registration questions to something much more user / human friendly. I've seen stuff like simple math questions, or a picture of an animal like a tiger and it asking what animal it is, to a very obvious history question that anyone could google like: "What was the first name of the person who won the 2000 US presidental election?"

Allowing easier registration for real humans would mean growing the community. Zaric said he wanted to run a youtube campaign. I fear it would basically be ineffective with the way the current forum registration is setup. Anyone who was interested would not be able to register because there is no way they could answer the trivia question to make sure they are not a bot.

3) Thanks for the site. I don't want to come off as a whiner - I just want to offer some genuine feedback / suggestions that I feel would benefit the community / future community.

I will try to answer these in order

1. The music is disabled, or at least it is for me, I use IE and Firefox, i would reccommend try using those, as the music is set to disabled and must be enabled to use there is no change i can make and no need to make it,

2. I appreciate your comments about signup, this will stay in place, 1. because once a long time ago we all came on one morning and a whole bunch of damage had been done with mysql injection scripts, 2. later we eased the signup restrictions again and sure enough out came the spammer posters. i can look at who is on right now, by IP and i see at least 5 robots that are trying to sign up and are being thwarted by our signup procedure. I am sorry through lessons learned the hard way, our high level of signup may remain in place.

We could perhaps change the questions or edit the questions a little, I will talk to the guys when i have a little time. As for the current ones, i have received tons of emails from folks trying to signup asking for the answers and i always provide them with the correct ones, so i do not think the system is totally broken. It is just tough to get in. and with good reason. you haven't been here when the walls were painted with pornographic links or links to overseas drug phamarcies, or have the screen load a very terrible ugly photo every time you tried to come in.

3. We appreciate the feedback, We are glad you are here and enjoy the activity on the board, this board used to be very busy, 20 or 30 people popping in and out every day. There have been tons of laughs, tears, and more on the board, they evidence is still etched in these walls, From mourning the passing of loved ones to the antics of Tater the Non-descript dwarve in the red thong over in the tavern, People still come and go,but you know life calls us away from time to time. Meanwhile we try and keep the candle lit and flame burning for all the Yserbian brothers and sisters to find their way home eventually.

With that let me say again i appreciate your comments and hope you will continue to use the website as a resource and place to keep Yserbius alive. I will work on a couple changes to make the questions better and get back with you. Thanks Slohand

Thanks for the reply.

1) Ok I'll live with it or use IE / FF.

2) Yeah I realize you have it there to stop bots. I've administrated a message board / forum before and have experienced the exact same thing you describe. No fun logging on and having your forum spammed with porn, or links that would download keyloggers, etc...

I suggested some alternative questions / methods that are still very effective at blocking the bots, but would allow humans who are not very familiar with Yserbius to register.

I almost didn't register and just bailed after I couldn't answer any of the questions. Somehow I remembered death darts though :-D

But yeah it looks like your going to give some thought to the questions. So thats awesome. Thanks for taking my feedback into consideration :-D
