I just received the sad news about yserbius.org . I wish I had been able to help contribute some funds to help stave off the costs from Slohand, but I've been tied up with various real life issues. I hope that somebody rescues the site, even if it's a small message board without archives. That wouldn't be as ambitious and complete as yserbius.org, but looking at the memberlist we've gathered while yserbius.org has been online, we managed to gather a remarkable number of ex Yserbius players.

Anyway, if the inevitable should happen, we ought to exchange our information while there's still an opportunity.

Special thanks to Slohand for bringing back an amazing, nostalgic piece of history.

The site's not going anywhere yet... The problem is, that it's a very real possibility if the site doesn't begin to pay for itself. Slo had put in ALOT of time and personal money into this, and because it balooned beyond just one mans personal desire, it's also balooned it cost.

This months news letter touches on this quite abit, if you'll read the "Final Word" section of it.

So please, continue to donate, tell your lost INNer's about us, because without you and your continued support, come end of year, we may have to shut it down....

Right now I think the hosting is the highest drain on us... Everything else is paid for... Any software development comes from our own pockets right now, as well as the YsMall... And wouldn't and doesn't impact the fact the community itself.

We use a ton of bandwidth, or had untill we cut back on the leechers who were just comin to DL Ys and not partake in the community... Again, the news letter touches on that too...

perhaps its time to cut off the downloads and just house them on fileplanet or somesuch. there is no way the board should be sucking down $300 worth of bandwith a month, not with a small community like this, something more then a few leachers is driving that cost up. You might want to investigate your hosting company.

True, and like I said the new DL protocals are in place to keep that down... But also remember, we have two servers... A cheap one for the community, and the other Deticated server for YSUO and YS Online development...

Trust me, we've looked into cheaper ways of going... And while I don't deal with the Hosting charges, I can say that deticated servers are not cheap... If you have anymore questions about it, or insight, ya may want to email admin@yserbius.org...

No problem man... We don't want to run anyone out of here... So, personally, while I can't speak for the others, I feel we need to be open on where we stand... We're not tryin to con people out of anything here, and we just want to continue to bring fresh content and memories to you and our community... We all miss our friends and family lost to in the internet mist.

I wasnt worried that you guys were running a scam, I was more concerned that someone was scamming (or more likely, exploiting) ya'll.

I got seriously screwed by Rio.net back when I ran thecelts.com. we had massive traffic for just having a few hundred community members, come to find out they were pawning their own traffic costs onto us, and then they sold our domain out from under us. I tend to be very paranoid of hosting companies since then.
Right now we run everything through a guild members site (wx1.com is a combo Dark Horizon/Celts site) and have a simple ezboard as an emergency backup. You have to really watch these hosting companies, some of them are just short of being pirates.

Wow, that sucks.... I don't deal with the hosting provider, so I couldn't say for sure on anything beyond what you guys see here... I do work for a major hosting company and can say, that if that ever happened here... Heads would roll.... And I'd be out of a job cuz lawyers would come down on us so fast, our heads would spin... LOL

Anyway, thanks for the horror story. Slo's been EXTREMELY busy lately, but I'm sure he's got the hosting side as trimmed down as humanly possible and still provide the same level of service everyone's hoping to see for years to come... Thanks for your support too BC, we appreciate it!

Sorry not being able to answer any post for a bit, but as Tig mentioned i have been busy. i have however made a few changes and the official monthly cost of the site is now $150.00 for both dedicated and shared server. So if somehow we can manage to keep this much up thinks should be ok. Like tig said most of the development cost has been out of our own pockets and speaking for myself i will have to refrain from spending for a time.
As for downloads and such i sort of like having the bandwidth a little lower these days. And since these files are in fact downloadable elsewhere on the net for free. we will keep the donation system in place for those who are truly interested in helping us keep the site online.
