Was lookin around for anything that might help us... People, YS program language(API) or anything else and I came across a few interesting sites... I'll try and pull some of this information from the sites for Archival interest...

http://encycl.opentopia.com/term/ImagiNation_Network

I forgot where I saw it, but I saw somewhere where Sierra's WON, was trying to buy back the rights to INN from AOL, but failed? I'd be very interested to know where all the supposed resources and information for the services went... I don't want any hypathecial awnsers.... Someone get me the current CEO (Or someone else higher in the ranks) of AOL and I'll email him....

Interesting... If you want to see the finacial statement from AOL after they purchased TSN...

AOL Sucks... Can I get an amen!

Oh, I guess I shouldn't badmouth them till we talk to them... Bah, whom I kidding, I'm sure every CEO at AOL from then till now feels our contempt for their handling of our beloved TSN....

TSN.com, BTW, is registered to American City Business Journal... Huh... sierraonline.com is of course registered to Vivendi, but doesn't actually have a website... Goes to a 404 page... Interesting.

Hmmmm... Whats this all about? http://www.eff.org/effector/18/43.php (CTR-F then Yserbius)

Anyway, thats all I could find today folks...

More merger information:

Strange... I can't find any filings from AOL on the actual purchase of TSN from Sierra... I woulda thunk there would be.... http://www.sec.gov/cgi-bin/srch-edgar?text=AOL&start=81&count=80&first=1994&last=1998

Ahhhh, thats right, I forgot they sold it to AT&T first, duh....

AT&T's SEC filings would take me forever to comb through....

I have seen statements from Ken Williams which imply that Sierra had a number of patents relating to technologies developed for The Sierra Network. I have tried to search for them a few times, but the only Ken Williams / Sierra On-Line patents I've been able to find have nothing to do with TSN or online gaming in any way.

I just spent a few minutes reading up on how to do more advanced searches with Google Patents, and I just got this very nice result:

http://www.google.com/patents?vid=USPAT6692359&id=QfIQAAAAEBAJ

That patent describes, exactly, the Sierra Network architecture. One thing you have to be careful about is searching under "Assignee." I expected that the Assignee would be Sierra On-Line, or The Sierra/ImagiNation Network. It looks like they applied for the patent before AOL bought the network but it didn't get approved until after the sale, so the patent was assigned to AOL.

Which in itself is kind of wiered... I thought you had a fixed amount of time for patents once they were filed... Interesting... Still, good call on that find.

It doesn't exactly give "How to", but the information contained in these documents COULD give somone a starting point, to actually build a server that acts like Sierra's old ones. Atleast in my oppinion. (Though I know very little on servers/patent layouts) Hehehe...
