July 8 & 9, 2005…

I officially know everything you can possibly know about the Soldiers Quarters (SQ)! After about 5 hours of stumbling around and noting everything, I completely “mapped” the whole level. After the 2nd hour I honed my “mapping” method and stopped stumbling around.

Definition of ”Mapped”: A map of a level has been drawn, complete with a legend showing the locations of:
:/ NPC landmarks (Labeled by alpha’s on the map) - A permanent location on the map where NPC’s (Non-player character encountered in the volcano) give you information. Screen shots of these locations will be provided. That way you’ll have a picture of the “gremlin wizard” and the info he has to tell. The screen shot file name will include the map location, “SQ NPC A.png”.

:/ Permanent battle area’s (Labeled by numbers on the map) - These battles ya just have to fight to get past. My notes include: mob type, exp given, drops, fighting style. Screen shots will be provided so you’ll have a nice picture of the scorpion and the pre-fight text… “You hear the angry snapping of pinchers”. The screen shot file name will include the map location, “SQ BATTLE 1.png”.

:/ Locked & Special doors – Locked doors are marked “L” followed by the first letter of the minimum key it takes to open it. Keys in order; Green, Yellow, Orange, Red, Purple and Blue. So “L-Y” is a locked door requiring at least a Yellow key to open.
Any special door requiring a special key, pass, character level, etc will be noted on the map.
Teleports are labeled “TP” followed by a number. It takes two doors to create a teleport so both doors will be assigned the same number. This’ll help with TP doors on different levels.

:/ Random Encounters or Mobs – These are the random creatures that pop up while adventuring. You sometimes can flee from mobs (you may need a higher Dex then the mob to flee?). I kept detailed notes on mobs I encountered while mapping. These notes include: mob type, # of encounters, exp given, drops, fighting style.

:/ Items – Any specific item found or dropped by creatures are noted by item name only. This info is on the Battle list & Random Mob list.

:/ Special art – Screen shots of tapestries, etc and the location will be provided.

While mapping the SQ’s I leveled a Knight to 10th level. To double check my notes and see if I forgot stuff (which I’m sure I did) I leveled a Wizard to 7th level. Notes on these two classes will be added the Character Class/Race Info topic. As I map out different levels I’ll use different classes so the info on each will be up to par.

I’m using the macro just to equip my characters to allow them to roam about easily. They are also equipped with the different keys which aids in “min. key to open” for locked doors. Since my characters are walking around with bazookas and full body armor, some information can’t be determined. I’m not keeping track of the following information, yet… (Also refer to The To Do List topic)
*Item properties.
*Mob “to hit %” and damage.
*Mob health points.

The Soldiers Quarters has been uploaded to the FTP site. This is one hell of a project we’ve undertaken hehe :/

July 11th thru 14th…
I’m back! My provider was down since the 11th, but it hasn’t stopped me from working. I just couldn’t post until now.

Soldiers Quarters...
I only have a few things to check-out in the Soldiers Quarters. I’ve been tweaking my notes and transferring them to Excel. I'll have it done by 7/18 and posted on the FTP site. The files for the zone are:
Battle list.xls This file will have individual tabs for each zone.
Random Mob list.xls This file will have individual tabs for each zone.
A folder, "Soldiers Quarters Pics" which'll contain all the Battle pics, NPC pics and Door pics that I stumbled across, for SQ only.
A folder, "Mob Pic's" which'll have screen shots of every monster type in the 'cano. As I go along I'll keep adding every creature I encounter to this folder. I have all the pesky runts in SQ :D
And finally a Map with Legend.

Class Info...
I've built a dwarven knight and halfling wizard to 10th level. The progress of their stats, skills, spells, etc has been noted. This file, Class info.xls will be uploaded 07/18. What I'll need to do is compare the progress trends between knights and wizards of different races. Does a dwarven knight progress like a gremlin knight? I sure hope so, in a way. As I go thru each zone I'll use different classes so eventually I'll have all 6 classes up to 10th level. Then to 20th, etc...

Item list...
I've also listed EVERY item in Yserbius in to Excel. As I noted in the To Do Forum, someone will have to go thru every item with every class to complete this list. I have a volunteer for this!!!

I've also made a list in excel of the zones. I'll have to check if every zone is listed thou. I guess we can use this as a checklist or something :D

July 15th...
I've uploaded to the FTP everything I have except for the SQ Map with Legend (need to scan it). Of course some of the files will be updated from time-2-time, when this happens I'll post here or email ya's.

I have an action-packed weekend so nothing will get done from this end. Hope ya's have a good weekend, safe travel and I'll talk to ya's the 18th :D

July 16th thru 18th…

Well the remnants of Dennis put a damper on my weekend plans. So off to Yserbius I went, where the sun always shines and the breezes off the ocean are oh so cool.

Having my friend helping (who was bribed with an all you can eat prime rib dinner) has really speed up my information gathering. I gave him the job of identifying every item in Yserbius, all 252. Even with a little help from vitaminF this will still take some time.

Note: Items, skills and spells will be numbered as per the REVIZE.TXT doc for VitaminF. I’ll upload this file to the site.

Item list…
Every bought item in the Guild Hall has been identified! I’ll upload the updated file Item list.xls tomorrow. I wanted to have at least the Guild Hall items ready for Tarquin for when he starts developing it.

I realized over the weekend that info regarding the characters skills and spells are nil. So I’ve decided to collect that info before “mapping” another zone. It makes more sense to get all the info required for character development and the guild hall before “mapping” another zone.

Skills/Spells…
What does each skill/spell do? For each rank (point 1-12) how is it affected? Is it a permanent effect or do you have to use it? Do you use it in battle or only when roaming? Etc… The answers to all of these questions for each skill/spell are now on my plate. Yum yum, just add hot sauce. When necessary a screen shot will be provided. So far I’ve completed the skills:
:/ Clubs/Axes- bonuses to str & dex when using the appropriate weapon.
:/ Fencing- bonuses to str & dex when using the appropriate weapon.
:/ Archery- bonuses to str & dex when using the appropriate weapon.
:/ Martial Arts- bonuses to str & dex when using the appropriate weapon.
:/ Staff- bonuses to str & dex when using the appropriate weapon.
:/ Athletics- bonuses to str & agility permanently (you don’t have to use it to take effect).
:/ Furtiveness- bonuses to str & dex temporally (used only while in battle).

I’ll have the file, Skills & Spells.xls uploaded in a few days.

So there you have it. Not much ‘venturing taking place here, which I’m sure the mob’s don’t mind, but the info machine keeps on truck’n!

July 19-20…

The information-gathering machine keeps on rolling. I don’t see me “mapping” another zone for some time. There’s a lot to reinvent when it comes to mobs, skills and spells. For example, the Shield spell doesn’t raise any stats but keeps some mobs from damaging you for the duration of the spell. The more powerful the mob, the better chance for them to bypass the Shield and cause some damage. So does Shield stop X amount of damage for each skill point you have in it? Also does the duration increase for each point?
The skill Bard, does it stun the mob? For how long?
The spell Energy Field, how does it work?
Yadda yadda yadda…
I will figure all these questions out. It’ll just take time.

Skills & Spells…
As I level the remaining classes to 10th level, I’ve been working on the S/S that you can see the effects. Like: Binding, Lockpick, Dissipate, Hail, Storm Wind, Lightning, and Aura.

Classes…
I have the Ranger done (10th level) and will have the Thief (9th lvl) shortly. That leaves only the Cleric left. When I finish the Cleric I’ll update the Class list.xls and upload it.

Items…
My Bro just keeps pecking away at it.

Screen shots…
As I roam I just keep finding more and more. The only problem is I haven’t figured out how to take screen shots on XP. So I’ve been just noting them and plan to get them using my work computer (2000).

My love of the game is the fuel that keeps me hacking away. I hope for the day when we can: logon, create characters, walk into the Dungeon Entrance, group up and just explore the Soldiers Quarters together!

Not much going on here. There's just something about staying inside during the summer playing a game from the early 90's hehe.

I did update the Yserbius Maps on FTP. I do believe that's all of them :)

I still have other files to update on FTP, hope to do it soon.

Good news! I’m now on-line at home! I have a feeling I’ll be spending more time in T4C on-line game then gathering in Yserbius. I’m sure Slohand will keep me in line. :lol:

The message boards have recently been ablaze with remaking Yserbius chatter. All we need to do now is harness this fire and put it to work. Until someone takes charge and organizes the mob all it’ll be is chatter. It seems that the best person to take command would be a programmer. It seems we’re fresh out of them.

Xenther has filled us in on where he stands with his project. For a One-Man-Gang he’s made good progress. I’ve decided to share my findings with anyone who wants it. I just hope one day Yserbius will be up and running.

Classes…
Finished the Thief (10th level) and halfway done with the Cleric.

Items…
I estimate this being 95% done. That’s every item!

Spells/Skills…
The ones that you can see direct results, like stat bonuses, are done. The one’s who’s effects are behind the scenes will be difficult. Sure, I’ll get the mana costs per level and its effects. But what’s the percent chance you can Pickpocket a mob? How does Light Shroud, Shield, E field all work? They provide no visible bonuses.
I’m gonna provide screen shots of the text when each Skill is used & Spell being cast. Instead of this, I'll add the text to the list.

I can’t wait to map out the next zone. I realized early that it’s better to work on one thing at a time, then to run around trying to document each and every thing.

August 16...

It's been awhile since my last entry. I'm happy to say I'm finished with all the classes to 10th level. Also my friend finished the item list. I have a few more skills/spells done too.

I also added two new pic's to SQ Pic's
SQ BATTLE 2 & 7, the first time you enter the fight.

I uploaded the completed Item list.xls and Class info.xls One thing with the item list is when ya use an items special ability (cast fireball) I don't have that "in game" text. It wouldn't be hard to get since using the list tells ya which items to do.
The classes are leveled to 10th so far, but it's something. As I mentioned before, as you level your health, mana and dex go up randomly. I haven't figured out this formula, but I did record the multiple scores I recieved. The stats listed is what I had for the race I used when leveling.

I've uploaded the work I have done so far on Skills & Spells.xls. I'll add the "in game" text that ya see when using one to the list eventually :)

I STILL have to scan and upload my SQ map with legends....

It's been awhile but works get'n done since I last posted...

Alll classes have been leveled to 16th.

Items have been updated....

The time is coming to do the Final Quest...

It's good to see progress in other area's :D

Yserbius IS coming back! I'll buy the first round in RPI :D

Finally an Update!

Hall of Doors mapping... all thats needed are screen shots and map scanned.

The Mines mapping... just finalize the battles, mobs, screen shots and scan map.

We'll have both done this week. Also writing up an article for the Newsletter that explains my mapping process. I'm thinking this article will be more like instructions to mapping. This way I can get a volunter or two to help map and check our work.

My friend who's helping me has alot of info on other zones, we just need to sit down and finalize it. He's also still working on leveling the classes to 20th.

I'm going to post in the public development forum asking for help with some spells and skills.

Consider these area's done.

Progress is being made on a number of other zones. Vestibule, Basement and Great Corridoor just to name a few. Pits and teleports have these area's intwined.

I have some research to do for Ra... hope to have it done soon.

My cry's for help in the pubic Development Forum are unheard.
