I was watching TV the other day when I saw that the Fantastic Four movie is coming to D&D.

That got me to thinking back when the FF was a Saturday morning cartoon. But instead of the Human Torch, they had a very annoying robot.

I always wondered why they went with a robot. Did they think that us kids would set ourselves on fire in imitation? Since THEY thought we were all dropping anvils on each other and using massive amounts of dynamite, I can see how THEY would want to protect us impressionable youths.

In a nutshell, here's the gist -

Random Thoughts

I like the title of this thread. Random thoughts on a passing scene. To me it invokes the thought of more than just the Fantastic Four. alot more.

Cartoons? well for instance. I remember Saturday mornings being the day you were glad you were a child. Waking up super early Saturday morning netted you Bugs Bunny, Road Runner and more of the Looney Tunes bunch. Remember Super Friends and their arch enemy Legion of Doom. Remember Johnny Quest? You heard the old adage you can never go back. well sit down and try to watch some of the cartoons shown today. It is hard to believe where the cartoon industry has taken our children these days and how our parents would have screamed and we never would have been allowed to watch a good portion of what is taken for normal entertainment these days.

I then find myself as a child watching black and white footage of Neil Armstrong walking out of the Moon lander and uttering word over a garbled static filled transmission"One small step for man---------"

Skip Forward a few years and I find myself learning how to rope (yes i used to be a Cowboy) I can remember my first horses the smell of Saddle Leather, Cows, and the Smell of Sweat on a Hot Texas Afternoon.

I remember the first time I really noticed a girl. Cursing myself for never before having noticed one of the most beautiful things that god ever created on this planet.

I remember clicking on that mountain for the first time. and the wonderful friends I made. And the loss I felt when I closed that screen the last time.

So here I am perhaps one half or more of my life done. Looking back on memories that will be fond to me always. Hoping memories that our children and your children make these days are as dear to them 40 years from now as mine are to me.

We can’t go back, but we can go forward making more memories. Memories of our new friendships, memories of all of us helping to recreate a memory here with the old YS client.

I am often torn with would i go back if I could versus going forward in this big quest which is our life. Where new adventures, experiences good and bad (mostly good) await us. I think even if I could I would more than likely chose the forward path. The thrill of what awaits us around the next corner races through my veins like a hundred majestic steeds racing along a mountain meadow.

So as I happily resign my self to going forward and making new memories. I am thankful that the memories I will making will be with good friends like you guys here at YS.Org Slohand

well spoken, slohand. We are grateful to you for creating this site, without you this reuniting of people and recreating of classic times (and forging of new ones) might never have been possible. thanks for your hard work man!

and btw, Calvin and Hobbes is the best cartoon strip eva! As for TV cartoons.. I'm a fan of classic scooby doo hehe.
I did develop a taste for Pinky and the Brain too hehehe

oh, and in reference to Fleetwood's thoughts.. it is very odd that society has always had these weird double-standards. One form of abuse and violence in one cartoon is considered better than another as long as the use of blood or death and other gruesome things is minimalized or disguised, or at least colored in prettier shades :?

I blame Cartoon Network.

Having cartoons 24/7 means that:

A. Saturday morning isn't special anymore

B. Crap cartoon s have to be used to fill in the program day.

Watching my kids watch cartoons, the ONLY cartoons that make them cackle with delight are cartoons that were made before I was born.

And Scooby and Shaggy? All they do is eat?!?! I'm with'em on that!

As for my two scents worth... Uhm... Well, I haven't any... Ok, I do...

It always bugged me that Cartoon network censored Dragon Ball Z.... I mean, come on! Bulma smokes, and Vegita drinks beer... Kids wana see that stuff... Geez...

The REAL star of Scooby Doo was Velma. Brains, looks, and superhuman strength. Remeber when the gang would get scared and all jump into Velma's arms and she would run away with them?

Nope... sorry guys... the A Number One cartoon hero / character of all time was Captain Caveman!!

Who could resist those beautiful soulful brown eyes hidden in that wild hair? And I don't believe there is any woman on earth that would argue about how great it is to see a man with a big... um... er.... <blushes> Well he did carry a big stick and his feet weren't that small either <smirks and goes off to dream about the caveman>

Tiger, I'm with you.. the scoobster and shaggy knew what was important in life. Y'know, even though the live-action Scooby Doo movie was pure crap and an insult to the Scooby name, that scene with the smoke billowing from the van had me cracking up. We all knew Shaggy secretly hit the bong hehe

Well, I can't really argue with the fact that they were crap... BUT, I have to say, that Shaggy and Scooby were true to the nature of the cartoons. Those two carried the movies, ya gotta admit... And yeh, the smoke commin outta the van was great... :wink:

Tiger, the guy that played Shaggy really did nail his voice hehe. The digital animators did a crap job on Scooby tho.. he looked scary really.

Fleetwood.. haha, so true.. Scrappy was the worst thing ever to happen to the Scooby cartoons.. well, aside from the new cartoons and movies where there REALLY are monsters and aliens and bad scripts. (Although, the 'Whats new Scooby doo' series wasnt too bad, the little I saw of it... *ahem* no I never WILL grow out of cartoons thankyouverymuch)

Never saw Thundarr the Barbarian?? That dude was Coolness Personified. Even though he never actually hit anyone with his lightsaber aka sunsword. But he sliced through enough weapons causing his enemies to flee in panic.

Have you seen the reincarnation of Simon in Chalk Zone? Same basic concept.

Anyone remember a live action show called Jason of Star Command?

The main badguy had a laser eyepatch and EVERY planet they visited was the same set of rocks and sand with different colored skies.

What channel is that new Simon 'toon on? Was the old Simon it's own show or was it packed with another (Electric Co.)?

Jason of Star Command sounds familiar... I'll have to search it on the net.

I also remember Mask, loved the Transformers (maybe why I'm an engineer now hehe), don't recall Danger Mouse... I'll check it out too.
