Reverse-engineering TSN/INN

Love this site! Glad to finally see a fitting tribute to Yserbius/Twinion.

This is a crazy question, but are there any programmers out there who have had the itch to reverse-engineer TSN/INN and try to emulate a server in order to restore Y/T to on-line playable condition?

It's a far-fetched idea to be sure and perhaps it's impossible. But I'm code savvy and foolhardy enough to want to at least try such an undertaking. I just don't want to do it alone. If there are any programmers with a bit of free time who want to take a stab at reverse-engineering a server-side emulator for MedievalLand, leave a reply here.

Cheers to Yserbius.Org!

Okay then: had a nice little visit to FauxINN and read a lengthy discussion about reverse-engineering. Guess not. Pity, though.

i'm looking in to it, although i know next to nothing on the subject. My guess is that it will have to be a combination of reversing code and emulating a server.

The exe's seem to be packed or something because the disassembler won't open them. I tried a few and they all return errors. THAT sucks, because i was hoping to chop out unnecessary steps AND see what the software was expecting to hear from teh server by looking at the code.

Doesnt look easy, or even possible, but i'm gonna keep fooling around with it...

I'm going to recommend not sweating the reverse-engineering. In a few days I've almost completely recreated the a picture-perfect Yseribus/Twinion GUI system and I'll be hammering out some of the last major kinks in the GUI over the next few days. The best path to resurrecting Y/T is simply to rebuild it... which is going to happen. 8)

Oh man all this talk of res'g Yserb gives me goose bumps! I volunteer to be a beta tester :/

Are either of ya's working with Xenther or starting from scratch?

right now i'm just noodleing out of curiosity to see what the potential is. If I get somewhere, i'll ask for help.

Until then, hold off on the drool. Its an arcane old piece of software :)

It's a lot more work to reverse engineer than to recreate a game that was as simple as Yserbius.

If you guys need some rare or esoteric thing found I can try to look for you, but there's no way I'm devoting my time (and using IDA on DOS executables is an amazing way to waste hours and hours of your life) to disassembling YS.
