Well, I gotta say I was kind of leery when Spike announced they’d be doing a Blade: The Series in their late night time slots. I mean, Snipes isn’t going to be in it right? So why bother! Buuuuuut, after downloading the Pilot on iTunes and watching it one day, I think I’ll have to change my mind. There’s deffinatly some down sides to it, but we’ll go over that in a second.
The plot flows like this, thus far. Blade opens the show with some Russian but kicking, asking some General Vampire where the bodies are being shipped. After some tactful interrogation al’la Blade style, he finds out their going to some dude named Van Civer, in Detroit. We find said leader of the Vampire house of Chthon shooting a familure in the head which just happens to be the brother of Kisrta, who returns home just in time for his funeral. Anyway, Chaos ensues, Blade uses her to infiltrate the house and pretty soon, she’s turned to a Vampire. Whoops… Blade gives her some of his magic blue serum which is her bane and salvation all in one lil vial. And that’s just the hour and 30 min Pilot. So now he uses her to learn everything she can about the House and it’s very rich and well respected leader, Van Civer. Each subsequent episode builds on that.
So, that’s how the game goes down. When I first saw the Pilot I went into it not expecting much. But it was Marvel made, and I was hoping for some rough and tumble vampire slaying that would give Buffy nightmares… Well… The action was fun… And… That’s about it. The acting is so, so… And honestly, I ALMOST stopped watching it because it was a little flat. But as the series goes on, and more character development is made and action is built up, suspense piled on… It got bearable. Blade’s only trusted ally is pretty cool and actually does more then just sit behind his computer and watch Blade do all the work. I would like to see some crossovers from other Blade friendly’s like Morbius or something, maybe the Night Stalkers… Something… Anyway, if you’re bored and up late on Wed nights, then by all means, turn on Spike and give it a chance.
I’ll give it… ooooh... 2 ½ Katana’s. It’s not perfect, but it’s worth watching. Plus Chase and Krista have hot bodies, so it's all good.
