Having so much fun making my maps

I remember hand drawing a map of everything on grid paper back in the day. I had every little thing documented. I'm doing it again, but this time using virtual graph paper. I've been using this tool because it has the features I won't without a cost, but it is web-based, which is a bother. Saving a map is not particularly fun either as it defaults to a name, and you then have to rename it and manually sync it to the maps directory where you keep the maps. If someone knows of a good tool, please share.
